YOUTH SECONDARY EDUCATION INITIATIVE
Youth Secondary Education Initiative: Provides private Secondary education at the I CAN FLY High School to boys and girls ages 13-17, grades 9-12 or (forms 1-4). Reading, language arts, science, and math fundamentals are given to prepare students for entry into Universities, Colleges and Trade schools locally and abroad. All students participating in the academic program attend classes from 7:30 am - 3:30pm, five days per week. A team of qualified teachers administer academic instruction, life skills and leadership development. The overall program is designed to help students remain competitive academically with youth through out the Sub-Saharan African region.
The Youth Secondary Education Initiative stresses student and parent involvement within the program. In our efforts to decrease student drop-out rates we promote parental input and campus volunteerism. Youth drop-out rates in Sub-saharan Africa remain high due to poverty and economic limitations impacting local communities and their families. We seek to raise enrollment rates at higher instutions while combating generational poverty as whole.
In 2010 I CAN FLY International will launch the Girls Educational Empowerment Project which will benefit girls ages 13-17 in the Machakos District of Kenya and surrounding villages. The project provides free secondary education, computer training skills, housing, and enrichment activites for girls who are current or potential victims of child-marriage, female genital mutilation, HIV/ AIDS orphans and those suffering from extreme poverty.
