"NOT For LOVE" The Story of a Child Bride: A Documentary

A Film by Sha' Givens & Angelo Kinyua

COMING SOON!

This film explores the lives of young girls being sold to older men ranging from 60 -80 years old in exchange for cattle, food and other basic needs of survival.

Child-brides have been known to be as young as six years old. Although most countries around the world state an 18year old age limitation where marriage is concerned, many do not enforce this law. Most child brides are married to men four times their age before they finish grade school. It is most common for men between the ages of 60-80 years old to take the young bride into his home to perform household duties as well as sexual favors. Many of them unknowingly place themselves at risk for HIV/AIDS infection due to infidelity and past behaviors by their husbands.

NOT FOR LOVE: The Story of a Child Bride examines the journey of two young girls in Kenya, East Africa waiting to be married to much older men before they’ve reached puberty. Their hopes and dreams are shattered by the reality of having to grow up too soon when they are forced to quit school, lose contact with family and friends and indulge in sexual acts. Watch their daily struggle to find their identity as a wife, lover and servant much too soon.

This 60 minute documentary is intended for Domestic and International audiences world wide. This human rights issue raises awareness to the effects of child marriage and why it still exists in modern times. Take a close-up look into the daily lives of two young brides living in the flat lands of Kenya. The story flows with a mirage of intriguing scenery, narration, and compelling interviews. The directors and producers of “NOT FOR LOVE” include American Author, playwright and humanitarian Shá Givens and CNN’s 2005 International Journalist Award winner Angelo Kinyua.
